Speak and record: how to make a voice note that turns into text

This page lets you speak, see your words appear as text, and keep the result as a note. You do not need an account. Here is how to get a clean result on the first try.

How to use it, step by step

  1. Click Record. Your browser asks for microphone access. Choose "Allow".
  2. Wait for the status to change from "Ready", then start talking at a normal pace.
  3. Watch the live transcript. If a word is wrong, keep going. You can fix it later.
  4. Click Save Note when you finish. The note is added to your list.
  5. Open the note from the list. Use Copy text to paste it elsewhere, or Download .txt to keep a file.

A concrete example

Say you speak for 2 minutes at about 130 words per minute. That gives roughly 2 × 130 = 260 words. A page of typed text is often around 250 to 300 words, so one short recording can fill about one page. Typing the same text at 40 words per minute would take 260 ÷ 40 = 6.5 minutes. Speaking takes 2 minutes, so you save about 4.5 minutes before any editing.

These speeds are only example values. Your own pace may be faster or slower.

Frequently asked questions

Why does nothing happen when I click Record?

Most often the microphone is blocked. Click the lock or camera icon next to the address bar, allow the microphone for this site, then reload the page. Also check that no other app is using the microphone.

Why are some words wrong in the transcript?

Speech recognition guesses words from sound. Names, technical terms and fast speech are harder to catch. Slow down a little, speak clearly, and proofread the text before you share it.

Can I record in another language?

That depends on your browser and device settings. Try a short test sentence in your language. If the text looks wrong, check the language settings of your browser or system and try again.
